The City of Riverside is located northwest of downtown Kansas City, MO in southern Platte County, and spans approximately 5 square miles. The primary role of the department is to ensure the overall maintenance and upkeep of the City’s buildings, grounds & facilities, roadways, trails & sidewalks, water features & irrigation, parks & recreational areas including the swimming pool, and other un-improved property. The City does not operate any of it’s own utilities. The City boasts 50 acres of park land covering 3 parks, 14 miles of trails, a swimming pool, and a fitness court. City facilities include City Hall, Public Safety, & the Community Center, all on the main campus, with the Public Works facility just a few blocks south. We have 101 miles of roadway and approximately 250 acres of un-improved property.
This position provides maintenance service and support for publicly owned and operated facilities, properties, and infrastructure in order to provide an attractive, safe, and healthy environment for the City of Riverside. Duties may include: repair and maintenance of infrastructure, snow and ice removal, grounds keeping (including parks), litter control, property maintenance, fleet and equipment maintenance, maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems, pool maintenance, and assisting with special event set-up and tear down.
Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Must possess a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record.
Must have or be able to acquire within 6 months a Class A CDL - with airbrake endorsement.
Must be able to perform heavy work requiring exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, 75 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds regularly.
Experience in maintenance service and repairs in the areas of plumbing, mowing, carpentry, painting, electrical, and general vehicle servicing.
The ideal candidate will have some knowledge of the equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance as well as those used to do minor repairs. Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions. Skilled in the proper and safe operation of power tools and equipment. Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to a work schedule. Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions. Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
Generally 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday. Weekend, evening, and holiday work may be required during snow events and special events.
Compensation & Benefits
$14.55 - $21.83 per hour or $30,273 - $45,410 annually for Maintenance Worker 1. There are Maintenance Worker 2 & 3 positions.
Full-time employees are eligible for full city benefits beginning 1st of month following hire.
New hires are eligible for a $3,000 retention incentive paid in 3 equal installments commencing on 6 month anniversary, first year anniversary, and second year anniversary.
