Riverside Police Department - Outreach Programs
The Riverside Police Department’s Junior Police Academy (JPA) is a summer outreach program designed provide primarily middle and high school-aged students with an introduction to Law Enforcement. JPA is designed to build partnerships with students by motivating them to be responsible, involved citizens. Society, generally speaking, may not understand the role of police officers and view them in the role of “enforcer”
thus developing their perceptions of them from what they see on television and social media. JPA students participate in hands-on activities ranging from computerized interactive scenarios, car stops, accident investigation, crime scene investigation, and physical training. The program always focuses on team building, diverse law enforcement skills, encouraging healthy lifestyles through fitness and discipline, while building new friendships in a fun and fast paced environment.

JPA will take the mystery out of law enforcement and provide a comfortable setting for which officers and students can interact in an environment free of enforcement. The program provides an opportunity for officers and students to view each other as people, rather than as adversaries. While students who attend JPA may not want wish to become police officers in the future, the program instills confidence, understanding, and a sense of achievement that will benefit them for years to come.
