Open Records Requests

Open Records Requests

How do I request a record?
Contact the City of Riverside’s City Clerk at 816-741-3993 to determine whether the information you need is available. You may be asked to submit your request for information in writing. Make sure your request is as specific as possible so that your request may be filled quickly and completely. For more information on Missouri’s Sunshine Law and Open Records Requests, visit the Missouri Attorney General’s Sunshine Summary Web Site.
Are there any fees?
Please keep in mind that reasonable fees, not exceeding actual cost may be charged for access to records, copies of records, and staff time for processing your request.
What records are available?
Most records maintained by public entities are open for inspection and/or copying by individuals. Boards and Commissions Meeting Agendas and Minutes, and resolutions and ordinances are available in the online document archive.
What are the exceptions?
The Missouri Sunshine Law recognized that some records contain information which is private in nature. For this reason, a number of exceptions are listed.

Matters that may be closed include:

  • Legal actions, causes of action or litigation (except that votes, minutes and settlement agreements must be opened to the public on final disposition, unless ordered closed by a court).
  • Leasing, purchase or sale of real estate where public knowledge might adversely affect the amount paid in the transaction.
  • Hiring, firing, disciplining or promoting a particular employee.
  • Welfare cases of identifiable individuals.
  • Software codes for electronic data processing.
  • Individually identifiable personnel records.
  • Records related to existing or proposed security systems.
  • Records that are protected from disclosure by other laws.
