Candidacy

Are you interested in participating in your local government and running as a candidate for a position with the City of Riverside? For your convenience, the candidate qualifications articles from the City of Riverside Municipal Codes and the Declaration Of Candidacy process is listed below.

Declaration of Candidacy forms must be filled out and signed in person at the office of the City Clerk. The office of the City Clerk is located at City Hall, 2950 NW Vivion Road, Riverside, MO 64150. Filing hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., holiday schedule excepted. The City Clerk will then check and confirm identification, administer an oath and date and sign the application.

ARTICLE I. ELECTED AND APPOINTED OFFICIALS -- GENERALLY

SECTION 110.010: ELECTED OFFICERS
The Mayor and members of the Board of Aldermen are hereby declared to be the only officers of the City of Riverside to be elected by the people. (CC 1971 §2.2(1); Ord. No. 76-4 §1(1), 2-17-76; Ord. No. 78-10 §3(A), 4-18-78; Ord. No. 2006-30 §1, 3-14-06)

SECTION 110.015: ANY ELECTED OFFICE -- QUALIFICATIONS
No person shall be certified as a candidate for a municipal office, nor shall such person's name appear on the ballot as a candidate for such office, who shall be in arrears for any unpaid City taxes or municipal user fees on the last day to file a declaration of candidacy for the office. SECTION 110.020: ALDERMEN -- QUALIFICATIONS
No person shall be an Alderman unless he/she be at least eighteen (18) years of age, a citizen of the United States, and an inhabitant and resident of the City for one (1) year next preceding his/her election, and a resident of the ward from which he/she is elected. (Ord. No. 2006-30 §1, 3-14-06)

SECTION 110.030: MAYOR -- QUALIFICATIONS
No person shall be Mayor unless he/she be at least twenty-five (25) years of age, a citizen of the United States and a resident of the City at the time of and for at least one (1) year next preceding his/her election. (Ord. No. 2006-30 §1, 3-14-06)
