Residential Trash and Recycle Services

For all single-family Riverside residents, trash collection is another FREE service provided by the City of Riverside.  This program is a part of our continuing process to provide for the betterment of our community.  You will not receive a bill from GFL (Green for Life Environmental) for curbside trash and recycle collection.

Schedule
  • Curbside trash and recycle service is weekly on Friday except for observed Holidays.
  • Holiday Schedule; if a Holiday occurs during the week, pickup will be pushed to Saturday.  Saturday collection dates are listed on the City’s calendar.
Carts
  • Residents are provided with two free carts; one for trash and one for recycling.
  • All trash must be placed inside the trash cart. Trash must be placed in trash bags within the cart. Trash will not be collected if not bagged inside of cart.
  • All recycle must be placed inside the recycle cart. No bagging required. Bagged or sacked recycling will NOT be serviced. Please place all recyclables loose in the recycle cart.
Bag Tags
  • If your trash cart is full and you need to put out additional bags of trash, bag tags may be purchased for $2 each at City Hall. Bags must be less than 40 gallons and may not weigh more the 40 pounds. Trash outside of the bin will not be collected without a bag tag.

Trash Bulky Items

Bulky Items Drop Off
  • Residents can drop off bulky trash items at the Damon Pursell Yard Waste Facility dba Rock Ridge Quarry, 6305 NW Riverpark Dr, Riverside, MO, 816-876-8898.  Hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., weather permitting, and Holidays observed. Large loads must arrive no later than 3:15 p.m. This service is free of charge to residents.
Tags
  • Residents may put their bulky items out on the curb with Friday morning pickup, using tags.  Bulky item tags can be purchased for $7.50 at City Hall.  One tag is required per item and items must be set out with the rest of the trash and recycling for pickup.
Bulky Item Express
  • The service is $50 per five items, including furniture and appliances.  Residents must call GFL directly and make an appointment to have your items picked up (816)380-5595.

Yard Waste

Curbside Yard Waste Service
  • The City provides free yard waste curbside collection four times a year.  Two service dates in the spring and two service dates in the fall. Collection dates will be listed on the City calendar. Leaves and brush must be placed in paper biodegradable bags.  Sticks must be put in bundles no bigger than 4 ft. long by 2 ft. wide.

  • Residents can also take their yard waste free of charge to the Damon Pursell Yard Waste Facility, 6305 NW Riverpark Dr, Riverside MO, 816-876-8898. Hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., weather permitting, and Holidays observed. Large loads must arrive no later than 3:15 p.m.
Additional Recycling  Services

Glass
  • The City has partnered with Ripple Glass to provide a glass recycling container at the City Hall Campus, 2950 NW Vivion Rd.  For more details, visit https://www.rippleglass.com.
Scrap metal
  • Residents can recycle scrap metal free of charge at the Damon Pursell Yard Waste Facility, 6305 NW Riverpark Dr, Riverside MO, 816-876-8898. Hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weather permitting, and Holidays observed. Large loads must arrive no later than 3:00 p.m.
Household Hazardous Waste

Riverside residents may properly discard dangerous household products free of charge.  Please call or visit the HHW website if you have a concern about types of items accepted. Identification and proof of residency are required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to use the carts?
Yes.  Curbside trash and recycle service require carts.
What if I physically can't push the carts to the curb?
WCA offers a front door collection service for trash and recyclables.  Contact Riverside City Hall for this service request.
What cannot be placed in my recycled cart at curbside?

Glass, Styrofoam and plastic bags cannot be recycled at curbside.

What cannot be placed in my trash cart at curbside?
Any household hazardous waste, paint, oil, chemicals and yard waste will not be collected.
What do I do if my cart is lost or damaged?
Please contact City Hall to report a cart theft or damage incurred during normal use. 
Can I take my cart with me if I move?
No.  These carts are specifically for the City of Riverside and shall remain at the address.
